Meet Mayeni

Mayeni is a film director and photographer working across narrative, experimental, and creative advertising.

Her practice spans concept development, creative execution, and social-first visual storytelling across campaigns, platforms, and launches.

Drawing from her Sierra Leonean-American perspective, Mayeni explores cross-cultural identity, Black femininity, the body, isolation, and the cost of visibility. She is drawn to contradictions and grey areas, exploring the distance between who we appear to be and who we are to uncover emotional truth.

In 2026, her debut narrative short Babyface received the Outstanding Achievement Award (Student Short) from Indie Short Fest, where it was also nominated for Best Student Short and Best Student Female Director. The film additionally received an Honorable Mention (Fiction Short Form) from the NATAS Student Production Awards.

Whether through a character study, brand campaign, or self-recorded transformation, her work is guided by quiet observation and bold creative risk. She approaches discomfort with curiosity, tenderness, and play.
