Meet Mayeni
Mayeni is a filmmaker with a Global BFA in Film Art from Emerson College and Paris College of Art. As a Sierra Leonean American with a commitment to global awareness, Mayeni aims to create diversified cultural representation while exploring topics like cultural intersectionality, identity, interpersonal relationships or a lack thereof, seeing vs being seen, black femininity, and radical emotional honesty.
She redefines strength by providing a space for the bemusing: the sensitive and the passionate, the too-loud and too-much. Whether it’s through an observational character study or self-recorded transformation for the camera, Mayeni dares to challenge perceptions and start conversations for those who are silenced by the messy nuances of life. A playful, imaginative, and inquisitive spirit is the foundation of everything she does.
By examining the relationship between live performance and the visual arts, Mayeni seeks to provoke the cathartic energy of the present moment, authenticity, and community.
